Botanist Islay Dry Gin

Botanist Islay Dry Gin

$479

An exciting and unusual gin from Islay whisky distillery Bruichladdich, The Botanist is made in a Lomond still christened Ugly Betty and contains no fewer than 31 botanicals, of which 22 are native to the Southern Hebridean island itself. These latter include the likes of Mugwort, Meadow Sweet and the enigmatic Lady's Bedstraw flowers, and the resultant dry gin is described, perhaps unsurprisingly, as 'floral'.

Description

Islay artisans, Bruichladdich turn their hands to producing a dry Gin that is decadently beguiling and aromatically intriguing. The botanicals used comprise of nine classic Gin varietals, plus 22 wild, Islay native botanicals that are hand picked from the wind-swept hills, peat bogs and the atlantic shores. The result is a highly distinctive, complex, floral gin with outstanding finish and impeccable provenance. In an age of re-badged industrial gins, the Botanist stands out as a truly artisanal, small-batch, hand-crafted labour of love and distiller’s art. A breath of botanical Islay in every glass.

Tasting Note by MasterOfMalt.com

Nose: Enough botanicals to make us wish we had five noses. Big notes of citrus, delicate menthol and flowers everywhere!
Palate: Cool at first. It quickly mellows out, warmth growing with citrus keeping it fresh throughout.
Finish: Long, with a good spice.
Overall: Islay isn’t just about the whisky anymore. The Botanist Gin is top-notch.
